Floods don’t dampen spirits of resources sector . . . but bad government policy will

Recent weather setbacks have done nothing to undermine the resources sector’s confidence in the ability of Queensland to continue to be one of the world’s great minerals and energy provinces.

Chief Executive of the Queensland Resources Council Michael Roche told a conference in Mackay today that the sector pumps $707 a second in payments into the Queensland economy, contributes around 21 percent of Queensland’s gross state product and is directly or indirectly responsible for one in every eight jobs in the state, but nearly half of all jobs in the greater Mackay region.
